If you drive through the Barra de Navidad, the village on the east side of the Colotepec River, you will come to a fence marking the entrance to the ecological reserve of Palma Sola and the lagoon famous for its birds and crocodiles. The reserve belongs to the people of the Barra de Navidad, and is protected by a 23-member cooperative. No construction, farms or cattle grazing is permitted on these 10 hectares.

The best time to visit is late in the day when the crocodiles are most likely to surface. To schedule a visit and a boat ride through the lagoon, call tour guide Crescenciano Salvador Arellanes, (954) 151-7794.
