The Rocket Man

Deep in the hills of Aguaje del Zapote, the community that borders Chila and the Manialtepec lagoon, stands a warehouse, far from any homes. This is where the rocket man Raymundo Laureano Méndez Sánchez puts together and stores toritos and other fireworks.

For don Raymundo fireworks are more than just a business, its his passion. Every time he puts on a show for a fiesta or wedding or quinceañera, he focuses on the reaction of the crowd. He has been doing this for 21 years, and he is federally licensed to practice his craft.
